Company Profile

Alakona Corp. is an asphalt paving and paving maintenance contracting firm founded in 1982 by Mervyn A. de Wolff. Mr. de Wolff remained 100% owner and President until 2007, at which time, Elisabeth R. Wilson became the President and 51% owner of the firm. As 49% owner, Mr. de Wolff continues his active involvement in the company as its Vice President and a Director.  Elisabeth Wilson has been involved with Alakona Corp. since its inception and re-joined the firm in January 2001 as Corporate Secretary and Office Manager. Both Mr. de Wolff and Ms. Wilson hold Paving Contractors licenses.

Alakona Corp. serves Oahu and the neighbor islands, with a broad base of clients including Federal, State, City and County governments, commercial enterprises, developers, property managers, condominium associations and individual owners.

At its inception, Alakona Corp. had as its focus pavement maintenance with emphasis on slurry seal, seal coating and minor asphalt repairs. During the past twenty-five years the company has moved toward its present service/product mix, deriving the majority of its income from asphalt repair, asphalt overlay and new asphalt lay downs.  In April of 2009 Alakona Corp. will introduce Green Mix Hawaii, a foamed asphalt product.  GREEN MIX HAWAII is a recycled asphalt product which is less expensive but equal in performance to comparable products made from virgin material, and GREEN MIX HAWAII can help your project achieve LEED Certification.  Alakona is the exclusive producer of GREEN MIX HAWAII foamed asphalt.

Alakona Corp. employs approximately 22 management and staff personnel.
Mr. James Iwata Jr., the General Superintendent, has over 40 years experience in the asphalt paving industry, 30 of which were with Grace Pacific.  Arist de Wolff and Max de Wolff returned to Hawaii after completing their educations to serve as General Supervisors/Estimators. As sons of the owner, Arist and Max have many hours of experience in all aspects of the business, learning from the ground up.  Our crew is comprised of approximately 17 employees, four of whom have been with the firm over ten years and six others with over five years of experience in the field.
